Discord is a popular voice and text chat app with over 1 million users. It’s great for staying in touch with friends, but it can also be a bit of a pain to use if you want to disable the overlay. To disable the Discord overlay, follow these steps:

  1. Open Discord and sign in.
  2. Click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen (the one with the green arrow). This will take you to a menu where you can select “Options.”
  3. In “Options,” click on “Add Account.” This will add your Discord account to your list of accounts.
  4. In “Settings,” click on “Appearance.” This will open up your Appearance settings.
  5. In “Appearance,” click on “Add New Item.” This will open up a new window where you can select whether or not to enable the Discord overlay. If you choose to enable it, then all of your chat messages will be shown in the overlay while you’re still using regular chat windows elsewhere in Discord. If you choose not to enable it, then all of your chat messages will be shown in regular chat windows when you use the overlay and when you’re using other applications such as Skype or Google Hangouts.

Discord’s in-game overlay is an excellent tool for communicating with your friends while gaming. However, if you find that it interrupts your gaming sessions, you can turn it off for all of your games or just specific ones. Here’s how.

Disable the Discord Overlay for All Games

To get rid of the Discord overlay for all your installed games, turn off an option in the app’s settings menu.

First, launch Discord on your computer. Then, in the app’s bottom-left corner, click the gear icon.

From the sidebar on the left, select “Game Overlay.”

On the right pane, at the top, toggle off the “Enable In-Game Overlay” option.

And that’s it.

Turn Off the Discord Overlay for Specific Games

To disable the Discord overlay for specific games while retaining it for all other games, start by launching Discord on your computer.

Then, in the bottom-left corner, click the gear icon.

From the left sidebar, select “Registered Games.”

In the pane on the right, find the game in which you want to disable Discord’s overlay. Then, next to that game on the list, click the monitor icon.

The text will say “Overlay: Off,” indicating your game overlay was successfully disabled. Happy gaming!
