Apple CarPlay is a technology that allows drivers to use their Apple devices to control audio and video playback of music, movies, and other media files on their vehicles. As of February 2022, all vehicles that are equipped with CarPlay will be able to support the technology. The first vehicles to be equipped with CarPlay were the iPhone 6 and 6S models. Other models that have been announced as CarPlay compatible include the Apple Watch Series 3, the Apple TV 4K, and the Beats Solo2 Pro. The technology is not just for cars; it can also be used on smart TVs and other devices. The benefits of using CarPlay are many. For example, it can make it easier for drivers to stay connected while they’re driving. It can also help reduce distractions while driving. Finally, it can improve safety by providing a way for drivers to control audio and video playback from their devices while they’re driving.
To use CarPlay, you connect your iPhone to your car or motorcycle via a wired (usually Lightning-to-USB) or wireless connection. Your iPhone then takes over the touch screen interface on your vehicle’s dashboard.
From there, you can control apps that support the special CarPlay interface with touch, buttons, or knobs. You can also use voice control with Siri to perform other tasks.
If you’re familiar with Google’s Android Auto, you’ll be right at home with CarPlay.
